No hype. No bullshit. (Well, SOME bullshit, but no hype): Words and music by Jim Parker.
I've been called a lot of things since I first climbed onto a stage with a guitar in my hands and butterflies in my stomach, but the one word that seems to fit best (and miss the mark least) is this one: songwriter. In fact, that's the one I use to describe myself as a performer, too -- especially after I hit a sour note in a vocal or blow a guitar lick, or otherwise need to extricate my ego from my performance in front of an audience. Whenever that happens, I just shrug it off as best I can, and remind anyone who needs reminding of the truest musical fact about me that I know: "I'm not a musician. I'm a songwriter."

Lyrics
you wake in the morning to the sounds of the day. and you try to shake your dreams off, but they won't go away. they're here to stay. welcome to the real world. you should have known. welcome to the real world. there's a devil in your head, and he won't leave you alone. she said that she loves you, but she said it's the end. said you took her for granted, and she said that's a sin. you did it again. welcome to the real world. it's your turn at last. welcome to the real world. it's a world that keeps turning, but it's turning too fast. jesus promised forgiveness. but jesus is dead. and here, among the living, we still wonder what he meant, when he said: "welcome to the real world. it's here and it's now. welcome to the real world. don't refuse it. just choose it. and use it, somehow." so you say that you're leaving, and you ain't coming back. but the highway keeps disappearing, just like smoke from a stack. imagine that. and welcome to the real world. you're closing in on the end. welcome to the real world. when it's over, you'll be with rover & aunt bea again.
