Keyboard/guitars/percussion/words: John Turner. (c) Additional protection sought. Dedicated to all those who seek a change. Written for the boys at De La Salle.
I've spent the past few months working in a tough part of Liverpool city with kids who in many cases come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The kids can be abusive one minute and can melt your heart the next. They're still growing; learning life. They're not to blame for the shit around them. But they have to deal with it as we all do. Especially those of us who can't afford to be some place else. These kids have big hurdles to jump if they are to succeed in life but I hope as many of them make it as possible. I hope there is a change. Every generation does. This song could be considered an extension of a very early song I wrote with the same theme, 'Hanging Around.'
Lyrics
(vs)
There's word on the street
That you were caught again last night
Another run in with the police
Is your soul broken inside?
(chrs)
Nothin' changes 'roun' here
Seems we were born to fight
Nothin' changes 'roun' here
Excuses don't make it all right
Nothin' changes 'roun' here
Nothin' changes 'roun' here
(vs)
Only sweet fourteen
But you've seen too much of life
My son where have you been?
You were out for most of the night
(chrs)
Nothin' changes 'roun' here
Excuses don't make it all right
Nothin' changes 'roun' here
Seems we were born to fight
(interlude)
(outro)
Nothin' changes 'roun' here!
Nothin' changes 'roun' here!
