This song came very quickly. I wrote it in about 20 minutes. The guitar part was done in one take.

Quote My Ghost is a one man project that has no particular sound, category, or genre that it can be easily associated with. Songs are recorded on no particular time table. They come as they come and they are often recorded in a hurry in order to get the essence of emotion preserved. The songs are often raw, unrefined, bitter, and unashamedly honest. They cover topics such as alcoholism. The devastation of divorce. The death of a friend and a family member. Childhood abuse. Relationships are questioned. Dreams and nightmares are talked about, and emotions are drawn out line by line. Whatever type of life you may lead, there is something inside each and every one of us that feels the sting of life. Whether we are willing to accept it or not, we all have that part of us that we try to keep hidden. There is a song here for you.

Story behind the song
I wrote this song very quickly on 4/21/06. I was messing around with my acoustic guitar and sat down in front of Pro-Tools with a mic and nothing else. I did a scratch vocal along with the guitar part, which is something I never do. Usually the words are the very last thing that I do, but these just sort of came to me without a lot of thought. With the exception of a few minor changes they are exactly as they came out of my head at the time. I did it in one take and thought it was so-so. Next, I added the bass part to give it some depth and used it to replace the original acoustic guitar. Afterwards, I did the guitar part in one take. I recorded it once and was pretty pleased with it, so it remained. The finished vocal part was the last thing I recorded. I'm sure it doesn't like like much but it was difficult for me to do (effects, editing, etc). I've played this song for one person and they asked who it was about because they weren't sure. I like the idea that it can be about anyone. Enjoy.
