The lyrics were written one afternoon while listening to Paul McCartney's 'Flaming Pie' CD. As such, I know it took roughly 20 minutes from start to finish. The music was done over the next few days in pieces, with the verses and choruses coming first. Then the intro, and finally the middle, which took about 45 minutes by itself. The other parts took maybe less altogether, so the whole song was written in a total of about 2 1/2 hours (or slightly less).
The recording is the first effort done on my TASCAM 788 digital portastudio, which I was learning on as I went along. This version is made up of about 12 different tracks mixed together. Drums and the guitar sounds were done through my Pocketstudio 5, fed into the 788. Then the final mix was run back into the PS5 direct to an mp3 file. It may end up being subject to revision as I get more experience with the 788.

I think it's time we clear the decks
You'll know exactly what I say
No distortion now within the text
straightforward has to be the only way
I love you, I love you, I love you
And that's the truth
I want you, I need you, I'll tell you
The rock-bottom truth
No more beating around the bush
get the message loud and clear
No more secrets left to hush
No confusion coming out from here
I love you, I love you, I love you
And that's the truth
I want you, I need you, I'll tell you
The rock-bottom truth
Sorry to be so blunt
But there's no need to hunt
For meaning in the midst of truth
I hope you can forgive
Or at least love and let live
And get a clue without a sleuth
The time has come to speak my mind
and not confuse the issue much
It's all within the words I find
To be expressing myself as such
I love you, I love you, I love you
And that's the truth
I want you, I need you, I'll tell you
The rock-bottom truth
I love you, I love you, I love you
And that's the truth
I want you, I need you, I'll tell you
The rock-bottom truth
I'll tell you the rock-bottom truth
