The beginning of The Devil was based off of a short story "Opus Dei" by the author Oliver Anderson wherein a young man and woman fall in love only to have the woman unexpectedly get pregnant. After an abortion the woman suffers a depression that leads to her committing suicide. The man left living is literally haunted by his love. The remainder of the story consists of the two ghosts trying to convence the man to come over to their side.

THERE (Sum of Its Parts) sweet angel came down the stairs and stopped at the door taking hold of her daddy's gun she brushed back her hair said 'oh, I feel it all for once' i know that the days get you down i've seen your despair watched you play like there's nothing to lose but your losing it here so i need to hear some words from you need to know just what your going through she pulled down her favorite cross and said 'i want to be there but every time that i walk down that path it leads me nowhere' and something in her disappeared as she smiled to complement the tears such strange beginnings in my heart it so much more than I ever thought I dream of children when I go to bed and it seems so simple when they show me my own death She sat there with this look on her face I can never escape she seemed so happy for once she called it her grace and her words have never seemed so true and I know just what she's going through such strange beginnings in my heart it so much more than I ever thought I dream of children when I go to bed and it seems so simple when they show me my own death cause I could be anything at all there and the sum of its parts
