Story behind the song
Juri sent me the music, which was so bluesy I had absolutely no trouble writing for it...but it has been on the back burner while we wrote a couple more because we were in the swing of the bluesy stuff...seems like we have the knack for it. Juri did such an amazing job of the vocals that I was gobsmacked when I heard it for the first time.
Lyrics
A Stranger, A Suitcase and a Car
lyrics by Dawn Sinclair
You know that it’s time
When you stare at your life
And you don’t recognise who you are
The picture on the wall
Is a mirror to your soul
And your blessings are the coins inside a jar
I’ve lived every day
In an ordinary way
I work and I play by the rules
Watch the sun rise and set
That’s as good as it gets
The stars up above my only jewels
chorus
Got as far as the county line
Called up that girl of mine
Told her I won’t be going far
She’s not one for big goodbyes
Another man will dry her eyes
A stranger, with a suitcase, and a car
I don’t remember when
I gave up on my dreams
and put away my daddy’s saxaphone
It might have been when I
Forgot to sit down and cry
For every wasted hope lost in my home
CHORUS
I’m heading for the sea this time
Not looking for hills to climb
My back aches from the burdens of the past
I’ll stop when I’m low on gas
When people just see me as
A stranger with a suitcase and a car
