Story behind the song
A few years ago before they cracked down on panhandlers in our city, I used to see a lot of Homeless Vets with Signs asking for money and food. Some had no legs some with one arm. So I decided to write this song wich was written in the late 90's for and about them.
All the Proceeds from this song will go to Wounded and Homeless Veteran causes. You can help donate to the cause by purchasing this song on Musicnet, Itunes and others.
These guys served their country and shouldn't have to be holding signs in the streets begging!
Lyrics
A lonely man wakes up from shelter, the stench of trash, a chill in his knees
Around his neck a badge of honor, the lives he saved, a man of good deed
Can't kick the sounds of men in pain
He drowns it out with sleet and rain
Forgotten heroes of yesterday, folks shun them like their deranged
The sign says "God bless yes I'm in need" truthful's tell ya "Just beer please"
Have you been down? I just wana' know
You've seen them round, Forgotten Heroes
She's perched upon her favorite bench site, a place to feel the fresh ocean air
She flashes back to visions of war time, the wounded children put in her care
She can't forget, the flash of light
The cannon fire that took her sight
Forgotten heroes of yesterday, folks shun them like their deranged
The sign says "God bless yes I'm in need" truthful's tell ya "Just beer please"
Have you been down? I just wana' know
You've seen them round, Forgotten Heroes
We're all just voyagers here that travel different streams
Some hit the falls, others make it to the sea
Forgotten Heroes
