Story behind the song
A new version, lots more instruments which was what I wanted in the first place but changed my mind when I first recorded. So here it is again.
Lyrics
Took the path that I thought was right Burnt my village to the ground And I wanted to find you but you're already found Didn't think I would fight this fight With you on the other side And I thought of the times When you were already mine You and I worshipped the wrong gods And they laughed as they drank and they stole our thoughts Now the clock it chimes for eight There you are all covered in red On this sunday Birds are flying overhead today (Did you say you'd stay?) I watched them glide away (I never knew you better) Scattering feathers as my memories gathered (Will you save me a seat when you're gone?) It wasn't my shot that did you in (Did you say you'd stay?) But it might as well have been (Did you go away?) I made my heart out of stone And now you're on your way home You and I worshipped to the wrong gods And they laughed as they drank and they stole our thoughts Now the clock it chimes for eight There you are all covered in red On this sunday You and I worshipped the wrong gods And they laughed as they drank and they stole our thoughts Now the clock it chimes for eight There you are all covered in red And I took you home on a Sunday Yeah I took you home on a Sunday I took you home Take me home back again
