This song was written by Frank Abono (Vocals) & Todd Hurley (Ryth.Gtr), both former members of Prodigal Son. It's about a man whom has been admitted to a nursing home by his chilren against his will.

Story behind the song
This song is a well written story of the feelings of betrayal by those whom are supposed to love you the most. It explores the complexities of loyalty, love, devotion, betrayal, all in one setting. I really loved performing this song live, but when Frank & Todd left, it was no longer logistically possible. I played guitar during the chorus, solo, & played keys the rest of the time. It was not possible to play this song to its fullest without either a full time keyboardist/1 guitar player, or as we performed it with 2 guitar players, one of whom part times with keys, as I do.
Lyrics
I can't recall just when it was I came here.
A million years ago or so it seems.
I can't recall just why it was they put me here.
To burn in Hell would be just like a dream to me.
I did all I could to provide for them.
I was someone who they all did adore.
They said that they would always, always take care of me.
But they left me in this madhouse forevermore, encore.
Broken Promises, Broken Promises.
They were Broken Promises.
You see, I'm the sanest madman.
And I'm the maddest sane man.
I'm The sanest madman.
I'm they maddest sane man, say man.
(Keyboard/Guitar Solo)
If I could get up from this chair I'd strangle you.
And then empathy would become your reality.
How could you even smile at me, after all you've done to me?
I never raised such a selfich bunch of fools, in front of me.
Broken Promises, Broken Promises.
I'm the sanest madman, Broken Promises.
I'm the maddest sane man, Broken Promises.
I'm the sanest madman, Broken Promises.
I'm the sanest madman
