Story behind the song
My brothers and sister and I were each given "assignments" by my mother before she passed away. Mine was to write something for her and have it played at her funeral. This was my goodbye gift.
Lyrics
When This Day Is Through Words and music by Greg C. Brown When this day is through and my work is done, I will lay me down with the setting sun, I will close my eyes as I take my rest, And I hope you know I’ve done my best. I’ll pray I did all right by you When this day is through. When this day is through. When the night comes down like a velvet shroud, And the winter winds blow the stars around, I will turn to God in silent prayer And ask Him if I did my share. I’ll pray I’ve done all I could do When this day is through. When this day is through. When I look back on all the days I’ve known All my deeds in life were my very own. If tomorrow comes and I do not wake Don’t let your tears fall for my sake. Just pray that Heaven is in view When this day is through. Just pray that Heaven is in view When this day is through. When this day is through.
