A song inspired in my New York years by the struggles of cabaret folk I knew, trying to make a dent in show biz with little but their own wits to sustain them.

Story behind the song
This was a melody from my musical MANNEQUINS that I repurposed for a show called TOOTH AND NAIL, about a showbiz duo that kept breaking up and getting back together.
Lyrics
I don't mind telling you We're coming to a situation I thought our enterprises Had real potential Now is this how it ends? We're not even friends anymore I paid the cab, I schlepped the bag I cooked the TV dinners I gave my everything to keep it together Now a brand new shock! You wanna walk out the door So...I starve, and I cry And I move the earth just trying To get over And it's over I dig in, never stop Coming up, over the top And then it's over It's all over Go off and make a brand new plan I'VE DONE ALL I CAN...hold up! What happened to the days We gladly cast our fate together? Each minor setback Was a major adventure With no shadow of doubt No chickening out in the clinch Am I to understand You're throwing in an early towel? Are all our big ambitions So many ashes falling through the sieve? God, somebody give me a pinch! Or a slap in the face Someone put me in my place And say "It's over!" If it's over...burn it in! Make it sting! Let me understand your thinking That it's over If it's over Go find the house, the job, the man I'VE DONE ALL I CAN All I can! All I can! All I can! I'VE DONE ALL I CAN
