Reading this poem I heard music and created an arrangement. Five years passed with our fair share of ups and downs. The song project was put on a shelf with others. However, the melody I had created stayed ever present and began beckoning to me to let it out. So I guess that every creative piece either in form of song, book, sculpture, painting or poem is manifested to life through a sequence of moments and is completed only when the time is right for it. Yes, another epiphany.
Epiphany
I had always thought, being taught
That all things around us are
transitory
Slipping away into
Unimportance as soon
As we try to put our hands
Around them and hold them always
Close to us.
CHORUS:
Now I see I was wrong:
We are the ones that leave
the party first
And this paperweight, this stone that I treasure
and have placed in the sun
on the window sill above the sink,
will be here long after my
Winter-small shadow has pulled up its legs
from the late afternoon snow bank
and walked away
CHORUS:
Now I see I was wrong:
We are the ones that leave
the party first
