In the Pages of a Magazine
by Tammy Jann
2020
Took an old box of garbage she found on the street
filled with someone's travel magazines
at home she dragged it across the floor
stuffed it in the closet and shut the door
One day she opened the box and took a look
she fell in love with the photos in the book
she tore out pages of places she'd never been
and taped them on the wall to take them in
Chorus
The orange of the sunsets
the blue of the sea
places she can't imagine
in the pages of a magazine
if life had been different
maybe she could be
off to one of those places
in the pages of a magazine
in the pages of a magazine
Over the years the pictures faded and tore
just like her dreams they hung tattered and worn
she would touch each photo's sunset and sand
and knew her wanderlust was grand
One day a man tossed flowers on her chair
sad that his aunt was no longer there
she wasted away staring at photos on the wall
trapped in poverty, she went no where at all
Chorus
The orange of the sunsets
the blue of the sea
places she can't imagine
in the pages of a magazine
if life had been different
maybe she could be
off to one of those places
in the pages of a magazine
in the pages of a magazine
Outro
So many places in those magazines
so many dreams, she's never seen
they're only pages of a magazine
