Back to Banbury

Jill walked up and over the hill
on her way to Banbury Cross
Jack broke her heart, she left him
she has nothing, she feels lost
Her friends and family are all gone
Only has the one dress that she's sewn
broken and blue, what can she do
in the town that used to be home
Chorus
Going back to Banbury
with nothing left to carry
left as a lady with a horse
returned battered and poor
sold her rings
and pretty things
she has holes in her shoes
there is nothing she can do
but forget who she used to be
and go back to Banbury
When did the music leave her heart
it had followed her everywhere
the streets are quiet and lonely
a chill is all that's in the air
Banbury's not the same for Jill
she works hard but is still alone
at the edge of Oxford Canal
stepped in to find a new home
Chorus
Going back to Banbury
with nothing left to carry
left as a lady with a horse
returned battered and poor
sold her rings
and pretty things
she has holes in her shoes
there is nothing she can do
but forget who she used to be
and go back to Banbury
Outro
She can't forget who she used to be
and she'll never leave Banbury
