Story behind the song
This is, for me, from my time in Vancouver when I wrote my book "Put your Bum To Work". I added new lyrics to Tom's song so as not to make it religious. Here, on the streets of Ottawa, is Tom's song with me adding my 1st verse at the end. From 1989, this may be the only recording that I have of me singing part of the song.
Lyrics
12 Those Car Drivin' Nerd #393 I'm Not A Car Drivin' NerdMusic by Tom Pirosok Some words by P.T.C. but mostly by Tom Pirosok. Nov. 10 1988 Typed September 1, 1998 I've been wandering from bar to bar. I've been wondering where al the good women are. I haven't found me one. I've been travelin' from school to school. I've been tryin' to write the golden rule. I haven't found me one. No, I'm not a car drivin' nerd, Cecile, I hope you understand. No I'm not a car drivin' nerd. So I guess I'm just sane. When I saw you eyes a shining in the dark, I saw something I hadn't seen for so long. I thought I'd found me one. Then that preacher came 'n' took you by the hand. When you danced he had such a hold on you. guess I haven't found me one. No, I'm not a car drivin' nerd, Cecile, I hope you understand. No, I'm not a car drivin' nerd So I guess I'm just sane. Well the day will come when I see you again and it won't surprise me much if it's in heaven No I haven't found me one. I'm Not A Car Drivin' Nerd Music by Tom Pirosok, words mostly by Patrick T. Connolly Oct. 24, 1988 Typed September 1, 1998 I nervously kissed Cher good luck. Paul was confident as she climbed on the back of his (proud motorcycle. The time will never come when I see Cher again. 'Cause Paul just never saw that cement wall. they couldn't pass through it. Well, I'm not a car drivin' man, Cecile, I hope you won't complain. No, I'm not a motoring man There's nothin' 'bout me to disdain. 'Cause those pansies are to lazy to walk And they want to take their exhaust pipe And stick it up you sensitive part (your nose). Why do I have to wait at this stop light, While slime balls drive through a green light, murdering their children? Yes, It's those car drivin' perverts, Cecile, to what will you revert? Yes you can get a car drivin' pervert I ain't one of them. I'd seen Colleen's eyes in the school hall. But some fella drove her heart away from me, it flew through her window shield. Someday I'll see headlights shining in the dark And I'll see you all in heaven. I'll have found you all then. Though I'm not a car drivin' man, I walk the side walks, Though we're not car drivin' fiends We're not even safe from drivers on our own blocks.
