Story behind the song
This is a song of protest. Governments all over the world and particularly in the UK, have stripped us of our basic human rights to enjoy nature and to use natural products to promote health and enjoyment. They even refuse us the right to explore our own minds.
They have forced us into a culture of dependency. They have given us a system that relies on treatment rather than cure. Why? To fill their coffers of course. There is no money to be made in curing people of illness. There is however, a vast fortune to be made in creating a dependency for ongoing treatment, an entire industry exists for that very purpose.
Have you ever asked yourself for example, why Cannabis is illegal for recreational use in the UK and other countries? It’s not because of any concerns about anti-social behaviour. Alcohol abuse is a known cause of anti-social behaviour yet it’s perfectly legal. It’s not due to health concerns. There is much evidence of the medical benefits of Cannabis, yet the evidence for alcohol, and spirits in particular being the cause of so much ill health and damaged organs is indisputable.
It’s lunacy. You can freely purchase something that is extremely harmful in supermarkets, shops, public houses and furthermore, there is no social stigma attached to the consumption of what is in fact poison, but you are labelled a junkie if you use something that is actually good for you.
So what is the real reason for this seemingly irrational culture of ours? Revenue of course. You can’t make vast sums of money (taxes) out of something people can grow themselves, yet you can create an entire industry, and generate massive revenue from manufacturing something that in turn creates a need for extremely lucrative treatment. It’s all about creating a demand that generates income for huge companies and governments. Clever eh?
So why are there sheep in the song? Why indeed baa baa. Just keep going along with it folks. Smile as you hand out your hard earned cash. Go to work, pay taxes, develop illness, pay more taxes, treat the illness, pay even more taxes, baa baa.
In the absinthe hills I will go wind the windmills
In my mind I will blow them
Mesmerize the eyes of inspiration of love
Kaleidoscopes I will know them
All I wanna do is dream
I will know them, I will know kaleidoscopes, I will know them
All I wanna do is dream
