Song I wrote for my daughter to be used for our dance together at her wedding reception.
When I thought of my daughter, I thought of her great love for music and the outdoors. I chose those two themes for the background of my song. Verse one was to convey that her choices and desires are what she will be free to pursue. Verse two is meant to convey that her path in life may take her through many challenges but by focusing on the positive aspects of the journey she will find a life worth living. In the chorus I wanted to encourage her to go the extra mile to “suck the marrow out of life” as Thoreau once stated, as I know she is capable. Of course the bridge recognizes she now has company on her journey and with oneness of heart, anything is possible, or as Dad would say 1+1=1 when wearing 3D glasses.
EVERYTHING I HOPED
Ellen’s Wedding Song written by her Dad – (assist by Jay Speight)
Final as sung
Verse 1
The great melody of life plays on
And what the lyric holds no one knows
There’ll be creeks to cross and valleys to walk
But the song is yours to compose
Lift
So come tomorrow
Chorus
Breathe deep and climb that mountain
Spread your wings and fly,
Dance to the distant drummer’s rhythm, with power and love
You’re everything I hoped you would become
Everything I hoped you would become
Verse 2
Your adventure in life awaits
A narrow road with twists and turns
But love one another, splash in the puddles
Life will show you, you’ll find what you yearn
Lift
And come tomorrow,
Chorus
Breathe deep and climb that mountain
Spread your wings and fly,
Dance to the distant drummer’s rhythm, with power and love
You’re everything I hoped you would become
Bridge
From this day forward, till death do you part
Your love at your side, and oneness of heart
Chorus
Breathe deep and climb that mountain
Spread your wings and fly,
Dance to the distant drummer’s rhythm, with power and love
You’re everything I hoped you would become
