Story behind the song
I was walking across the street and noticed a nickel on the road. As I tried to pry it loose from the tar, I scraped my knuckle. Later that same day, I was saying hello to a friend, at an open mic event. He mentioned that my hand was bleeding and I replied, "I scraped my knuckle, tryin to pry up a nickel, that was stuck in the tar, run over by a car, in the middle of the road." He told me that it sounded like a song. It didn't take long for the rest of the song to follow.

I Scraped My Knuckle 2008 Reggie Miles All rights reserved I scraped my knuckle Tryin to pry up a nickel, That was stuck in the tar, Run over by a car, In the middle of the road. And things dont ever seem to get better. Damn! This is getting old! Now I dont mean to bore ya, With another sad story, Bout a good man who cant get a break. Who thought that sooner or later, His luck would change, for heavens sake. I tried everything I could. It didnt do any good. Nothins turnin out like it should. And I dont know how much more of this This poor man can take. It aint my choosin Seems I only win at losin Its enough to drive a sober man to drink. Hey, beer tender! Keep it full. While I sit here and think. All these dead end jobs They leave me feelin kind of robbed Nothin to show for the time that Ive spent I dont even have enough left over To pay the landlords rent You call this a livin? All I do is all the givin And I dont get a thing in return Except another sad song About a good man getting burned I know it sounds funny But I aint got no money And these blues theyre a wearin me down Thats why Im scratchin like a hen for a worm In this asphalt ground Thats how I scraped my knuckle Tryin to pry up a nickel, That was stuck in the tar, Run over by a car, In the middle of the road. Thats how I scraped my knuckle Tryin to pry up a nickel, That was stuck in the tar, Run over by a car, In the middle of the road. I scraped my knuckle Tryin to pry up a nickel, That was stuck in the tar, Run over by a car, In the middle of the road.
