Story behind the song
Rodney Anonymous (Dead Milkmen) and Rob Windfelder (Live Not On Evil) got together to write this song inspired by the book of the same title. A fictional book based on Lewis Carroll which describes his obsession with his muse as being less than appropriate. At first the song was to be about that obsession but by writing's end the focus shifted a bit more to being about the disservice of having your legacy crafted by a piece of fiction after your death. Resting not so peacefully as your memory is soured for entertainment sake.
I've had so many friends like you before but none of them were you see her shadow hallway late at night hear her laughing no one else in sight none like you Still She Haunts Me My dear sweet gentile sentimental tiny muse my claim to fame is you See her shadow corner of my eye hear her laughing no one else in sight What is the truth as if it matters anyway Still she haunts me for "some" read "all", for "girls" read "boys" and for "ten" read "two" Now every word that I've said is coming dead back at me and there is nothing I can say Dear Sweet Affectionate One you never knew when to run and now your ghost won't go away.
