"Beneath The Ocean Tide" is the second original Dance/Hip Hop song off my first album, Abstract Brown. It is a fast tempo dance-club song incorporating the use of synthesizers reminiscent of 80s and 90s Dance music but with a very modern twist. Nonetheless, the song's focal point are the Hip Hop lyrics, which tell the story of two kindred spirits who once connected with each other on a spiritual and emotional level, but currently experience "ocean tides" of setbacks that hinder intimacy. The lyrics depict the woman as having once been "broken pieced together." Her conflicting emotions causes the man to explain to her that he wants to "navigate her mind." The lyrics contain abstracts and metaphors as the man conveys to her that he truly cares for her and has lots of gratitude toward her, no matter what she thinks. She kept her heart like "buried treasure" but he'll dive beneath the ocean tide to find it. The song has a deeper meaning which come from the subtlety of the second chorus which becomes more prominent toward the end. "Natural Highs and Shooting Stars." I combined Auto Tune and Vocoder together simultaneously for a different approach to using vocal effects, essentially overlapping one vocal effect with the other which required three separate vocal recordings. I wanted to make the vocal techniques enhance the song subtly in the background. The song was created in such a way as to make it easier for others to remix it to Dub step or other sub-genres of Hip Hop or Techno. "Natural Highs" refer to states of spiritual bliss and "Shooting Stars" refers to the human body's Kundalini or "corporeal energy" that usually lies dormant at the base of the spine. These are esoteric, ethereal and Yogic concepts and how it relates to the song can be found out by checking out my website. The album cover art should shed some light as to what was going on in my head in the recording studio. The bridge is a fast rap freestyle to match the song's tempo. It sheds light on the abstract metaphors in the song's verses.
