Story behind the song
Dedicated with much love and affection to someone close who passed away in December 2003. They were a great country fan, and so I've attempted to make this something they would have enjoyed. They are greatly missed. Technical details: Recorded entirely on the 788, with drums and guitar effects from the PS5. New (Nov. 2018) - Fourteen years after its initial release, 'Let's Close This Honky-Tonk Tonight' has been updated. Due to advances in recording technology unavailable to me originally, I've been able to go back and autotune the vocal as well as fixing some little timing issues here and there with the backing tracks. The whole song has also been completely remixed, resulting in a much better version that I hope finally does the material a little more justice.
Lyrics
Now the kids are grown and moved away Spread their wings and gone Now the sun has set on a lovely day Time just keeps getting on There's neon lighting up each wall And Winstons smoking up the eyes Let's keep them coming until last call Or at least until the laughter dies We won the battle and lost the war But held on like we should It's too late now to fight any more We did the best we could Now let's crack open another bottle of brew And fall down into the deep And if you'll feed the jukebox, a quarter or two I'll let George Jones sing me to sleep Is there time enough for one last dance Let's close this honky-tonk up right One last drink, is there half a chance Before they lock up tight When the tap on the shoulder comes at last All our fun will be in the past So before you fade out of sight Let's close this honky-tonk tonight Is there time enough for one last dance Let's close this honky-tonk up right One last drink, is there half a chance Before they lock up tight When the tap on the shoulder comes at last All our fun will be in the past So before you fade out of sight Let's close this honky-tonk Let's close this honky-tonk Let's close this honky-tonk tonight
