Story behind the song
After the Newtown Connecticut shooting (12-2012), I realized how much more meaningful the lyrics to this song were. It took me two days to find an old cassette tape from years ago where I stored the words, and then another two days to write the music and record it. I wish I had more time to make a real video, but for now there's one on http://youtu.be/ArMwWQWDByE
Lyrics
? Kids are all asleep on Christmas night, Wrappings scattered 'round the tree by fire light, They're safe and they're warm, but for how long, no guarantee, Can we hide them from a bitter world, filled with no peace? Santa is prostrate on Christ's manger, He prays, "Oh hide them from all danger," it's not their problem to have to solve, They're angels of love and joy, keep them that way. Why do they have to - deal - with our sin, like melting snow. Seasons come and go but lifetime's once, Give your children gifts of time; it's needed most. They're not just human, not just flesh and blood, But Cherubim and Seraphim, And autumn leaves won't leave until they die. Are you watching your children watching their children? If they had what we had ... they'd never feel the things that always bring us to tears... like being alone at Christmas time. We cant hold them accountable, they're in our image; the lost divine. Right now you're back in time, look, they're babies again, They're crying, give them comfort. Don't lose your chance this Christmas night - hold them. Let them survive this life, teach them to love this life. ?
