Story behind the song
One of my favorite songs - I always felt that the production from the first BOC album could be better, and as much as I love Buck's guitar work, felt that a sax would sound really cool doing the leads.
Lyrics
parched land, desert sand
the sun is just a dot
and a little bit of water goes a long way
cause it's hot
3 good buddies were laughing and joking in the back of a rented ford
they couldn't know they weren't going far
each one had money in his pocket
to go out and by himself a brand new car
they all had what money they had
money they hoped would take them far
sky is bright, a traffic light - now and then a truck
and they hadn't seen a cop around all day - what luck!
brought everything they needed, bags and scales to weigh the stuff
driver said the borders just over the bluff
wasn't 'till the car suddenly stopped
in the middle of a cold and barren plain
then the other guy turned and spilled
3 boys blood - did they know a trap had been lain?
they're ok the last days of may
I'll be breathing dry air
I'm leaving soon, the others are already there
wouldn't be interested in coming along instead of staying here
I hear the west is nice this time of year - that's what they say
