The lyrics of this song were presented to me in the form of a poem by my work colleague and friend Fred Barrett. Fred's mother has been stricken with Alzheimer's disease and he used his words to help deal with his personal struggle. It was an honour to help Fred put his words to music.
He thinks back on the good times
The walks in the park
Being together from morning until dark
Coffee Sunday mornings and rides around the bay
Living with the notion that he's losing her each day.
Chorus:
Fifty years together don't feel like it should
The trials, tribulations, the hard times and good
His world is all sadness and too much regret
Because he still remembers all the things that she forgets
Now holding things together is a hard thing to do
Holding her hand and missing her too
He hopes when he still tells her as many times he'll do
The words break through the darkness....."I love you"
Repeat Chorus
