Story behind the song
The men and women that fought in the Vietnam war didnt have the support that we as a country should have given them. A lot ended up on the streets and never found their way back into society. I salute all of them and my thoughts and prayers are with you even after all these years. You will never be forgotten.
Lyrics
Forgotten Hero
There’s a full moon out
Beneath the stars
Cold plated steel
Lies pounded to the ground
He rides the rails
From dusk til dawn
Not wanting to be found
He’s a traveling man
Got an ole pair of boots
Camouflage britches from Vietnam roots
Did two tours and had to shoot
A lot of bad men down
Chorus:
He fought for his country
With his blood and a gun
All those years ago and it's sad to see what he's become
Just another hobo he's a man on the run
Left that country wondering what he'd done
To come back stateside and be shunned
Ole Uncle Sam said he was fine
Gave him disability at least for a time
Then one day they dropped him a dime
And took it all away
Chorus:
He fought for his country
With his blood and a gun
All those years ago and it's sad to see what he's become
Just another hobo he's a man on the run
Left that country wondering what he'd done
To come back and be shunned
Bridge:
Well he rides these rails from town to town
Searching for the ghosts of the fallen down
He’ll keep looking til their found
Or they lay him in the ground
Chorus:
He fought for his country
With his blood and a gun
All those years ago and it's sad to see what he's become
Just another hobo he's a man on the run
Left that country wondering what we've done
Came back and he was shunned
Now its just to late
Hes a forgotten man on the run
Left that country wondering what he'd done
To come back stateside and be shunned
