Story behind the song
I had to inform my wife of the death of her father. She'd only met the man maybe 4 times in her life. After I did I wrote this song for her. It was a messed up day that day and I didn't know where else to turn expect my guitar.
Lyrics
Your Other Daughter _______________________________ Falling asleep by the fire, her mind goes back to a dream she had as a child... sailing away with her father to a far away mysterious place filled with joy... ...the sun and the moon lit the way through the subtle waves, though distant, dark clouds formed... The sky grew black in all directions, when the wind came she reached out to her dad but he was gone... his choice between wife and his lover had surfaced and broke the calm and ripples turned to waves... ...no more oar on the boat made a wandering course and that's when she called... ---chorus--- Here I am your other daughter, reaching out to you my father here I am your other daughter, please just say that you remember... ______________ After the storm all the damage could be easily seen and it broke her heart, like a rock breaks a bow... patching the holes all alone, became after thought a routine of each passing day... ...the years went by and the girl came into her own she swam up to the shore... Knowing that he was somewhere out there, she'd hold the line and hope that someday he'd return... but the cruel march of time washes those apart to different shores and she was left with what might have been... ...She looks in the face of the child that he'll never know and that's when she cries... ---chorus--- Here I am your other daughter, reaching out to you my father here I am your other daughter, please just say that you remember...that you remember me... (Daddy, please don't go... I just want to know... all those years ago... did you every know...me...?)
