A damaged soul rages against the horrible injustices of her life. She blames a 1980s symbol of whitebread pop.
This song was motivated undoubtedly by guilt about tormenting this poor girl when I was in junior high. My brother Jack felt guilty too. Alec Walling just felt guilty just for knowing us.
The band here is The Grizzley Souvenirs, featuring me, Jack on lead guitar, Tom Adler on banjo and Al Faaet on percussion.
MAGGOT RAGS
(By Steve Terrell, Jack Clift & Alec Walling)
Feelin' grimy, soiled and slimey
Wish you'd had a
Chance to try me
Olivia Newton John wishes that she was me
She don't know how far I've gone
And all of the things I see
All this glamor, panaramor
Rusty nail and
Silver hammer
Olivia Newton John doesn't know how to scrounge
The money's out in the street
Or meeting them in the lounge
I dropped my books and
They fell in the sand
'midst the jeers of adolescents
Olivia Newton John doesn't know how to swim
Memories oh so bleak,
Feelings that grow so grim
"Maggot Rags" they call me
"Maggot Rags" they call me
Maggot, Maggot, Maggot, Maggot, Maggot, Maggot, Maggot,
Maggot Rags ...
Olivia
Newton
John ....
