An earlier solo piece.
The story behind the song:
A few years back, my pastor did a study in the book of Romans. I came away from that study with a new understanding and a new favorite verse – my life verse – Romans 12:1-3! Then, one day, as I was contemplating that great thought from Romans, I was reminded of a prayer/poem written by Christian missionary and martyr Betty Stam. I recalled her commitment to the Lord – and how I had once claimed her prayer as my own. Here it is – in it’s entirety:
Lord, I give up all my own plans and purposes,
All my own desires and hopes,
And accept thy will for my life.
I give myself, my time, my all
Utterly to thee to be thine forever.
Fill me and seal me with Your Holy Spirit.
Use my as thou wilt,
Send me where thou wilt,
Work out thy whole will in my life
At any cost, now and forever.
I struggle daily with dying to self and living for Him – and even the written reminder in the front of my Bible (Betty’s prayer) is insufficient to keep me on track for an entire day. Then, one other fine day, I was reading an account of a lady who visited an antique store and found a “prayer clock”. She inquired of the store clerk, “What makes this clock different from any other clock?” Her answer . . . well, this prayer clock does indeed chime every hour on the hour – but it also chimes five minutes after every hour – allowing for numerous “five minute prayer times” throughout the day . . . and the desire of my heart AND this song was borne as a result of these 3 thoughts coming together.
This Hour - by Denise Vrana
(Instrumental)
The clock on the wall is ticking away
Where has the precious time gone
Distractions & worries take my eyes off You
And Your heaven sent Son
Lord, quicken Your Spirit abiding in me
Let His voice be the loudest I hear
Wash my in Your Word and fill up my day
With You I’ve nothing to fear.
Chorus:
Take me, Lord
All that I’ll be
All that I do
All that I see
All that I long for
Need and require
Take me, I’m Yours, Lord
I offer this hour
Worldly passions no longer hold me
Not one compares to the Only
Divine, supernatural, heaven sent Son
Author and finisher
Who’s work will be done
(Chorus 1)
(Instrumental)
Chorus 2
Take me, Lord
All that I am
All that I want
All that I plan
All that I dream
Wish, hope, desire
Take me, I’m Yours, Lord
I offer this hour
