Story behind the song
As DayBeforeNever's first song, it is still one of their favorites to play. Contrasting dynamics and numerous melodic lines make the song a powerful entity to their repertoire, and it is requested numerous times at gigs. Originally, the lyrics Nick had written were about a boy that is trying to 'find' himself in a world that seems to not accept him. Later, the song was rewritten by Nick to closely follow Ayn Rand's 'Anthem,' but still managing to follow the song's main theme.
Lyrics
Feeling so alone Walking down the street late at night Can’t find our way One word unspoken we speak it now I am, I think, I know, I care, I try, I will Hold my hand my breath is still Tell me why I’ve got to go on keep on living In this painful memory In this guilty mirage Tell me why I’ve got to get out of this world This place I’ve built Bare and cold Covered with white walls Tell me why (2x) Secrets still remain Mysteries of life now unchained Reminiscent wanderings Convinced me I can conquer all Golden beams of light shine down on me Why can’t they just let me be? Hold my hand my breath is still Tell me why I’ve got to go on keep on living In this painful memory In this guilty mirage Tell me why I’ve got to get out of this world This place I’ve built Bare and cold Covered with white walls Tell me why (3x) Feeling so alone (3x)
