A song about the transition to the afterlife.
I just heard from a friend that Ben Keith has passed away.
It's difficult for me to process this right now.
Ben was such an integral part of many of Neil Young's greatest musical works. He had a signature soulful sound and you could recognize it instantly.
There are quite a few Neil Young songs where his pedal steel playing adds beauty. I'm sure you know them. Spok with an old friend and he is also saddened by this loss. I can imagine Neil Young is devastated by the loss of his friend and colleague.
It is pure coincidence but I had just written a song about the transformation to the afterlife. I did not know about Ben when I wrote this yesterday but when I found out about Ben a shiver went through me. Because I must have been writing this around the time of his death. The idea for the song came to me first on Sunday. I wrote the first draft Sunday, worked on it yesterday, finished it this morning and then heard about Ben's death.
Rest In Peace Ben, as my old friend said, your music meant so much to us. Thank You,
I think I'm lost.....I think I'm all alone
I need some light.....To find a way back home
A little taste.....Of the cold night air
Darkness waits.....I feel it everywhere
I think it's time......To Disappear
Went searching for.....What I thought was mine
Looked everywhere.....Just ran out of time
I found myself.....On an empty beach
I see a light.....Dancing on the sea
I think it's time.....To Disappear
I hear an old song.....I look into that light
It's summertime.....1965
I watch my life.....Pass before my eyes
I see a child.....Says everything's alright
I think it's time.....To Disappear
That little child.....Was once inside of me
So innocent.....And so carefree
I took his hand.....We ran toward the light
I watched my life.....For one last time
I think it's time.....To Disappear
Now time to cross.....To the other side
Now nothing left.....Of my past Life
In a flash.....I'm no longer here
As I dissolve.....into the atmosphere
I feel the Love.....And I Disappear
