Story behind the song
We all need our Lord. By He giving Himself to us we have all the invisible things in life. In 2008 while lying outside a church building in the cold of spring having no roof over my head and staring down a future of homelessness I had some quiet time with the Lord. All my family and friends had left me. My gift of music and opportunities were taken; my position in academic circles was gone; relationships with everyone I knew had all collapsed and I was alone with God. It was the loneliest time of my life. I had lost everything and all my friends were gone or could not help me. In the cold I met the Lord in a whole different way while singing and coughing through the cold night and I had the invisible things that we all crave. More than money, we all want love; to have peace in our lives; to have the right amount of patience with things and people; to be joyful; to be gentle; to have the faith to endure to the end and persevere especially when people hurt us. Such things sometimes you can have and value when there is nothing else to lose. It is strange but I gained much more when I lost everything. Whatever valley you are going through I hope that you see God. In the midst of the darkness for what you may think is bad may be for your good!
