Story behind the song
Yeah, "Rollin thunder" is one of our favorite songs. That song has a lot of meaning. On 9/11 I unfortunately witnessed the entire tragedy firsthand. I work directly across the river from where the Towers were, and was also a part of the bucket brigade. In May 2003 we were invited to play in D.C, by an organization called Rolling Thunder. They are a support group for veterans, POWs and MIAs from the wars (they can be reached at www.rollingthunder1.com. A good friend of mine also played the concert. He is Omar Martinez from Paul revere and the Raiders. After the show we were talking about doing a remake of a Billy Ray Cyrus song "some gave all" (an excellent song by the way), But we could not come up with a version that did the original justice. One day I was sitting on my balcony and from out of nowhere the song "Rollin Thunder" came out. The war in Iraq was on, and everyone was still talking about 9/11, I guess it just all came together in my head at that point, so I quickly called Omar. A few of us flew out to Reno to record the song with Omar (Neil, Juan, and myself). The funny, but sad truth about the song is a lot of people do not play it. I tried contacting the USO, armed forces radio etc., To get airplay for the troops in Iraq. Sadly, they did not want to hear anything about it
Lyrics
