Story behind the song
'The Swimming Pool' was one of four tunes included on a private release (conveniently called 'Four Impressions') a few years ago, although the song idea dates back even further to the mid-90's. The song attempts to capture a particular moment in time. There was little to love about TN when my family moved there; however we did have a lovely outdoor pool. Swimming at night could be particularly nice, especially on a clear night. Floating on my back, I could stare out at the stars. The pool light, mounted just below the surface, caused reflections to flicker and dance along the inside of the fence. It was very peaceful and very beautiful. Anyway, this piece tries to capture that moment. If you don't have a open-air body of water near your CD player, the best way to listen to this piece is in a dark room, centered between the speakers for the best possible image. Sometimes when I listen back the song absolutely surrounds me, and I can almost believe I'm back in the water, watching the night sky pass overhead.
