I served as worship leader for Bill Davis during a 2 week series of meetings in Enid in 2003. During this time, Bill spoke about the nature our relationship to God. One day he told a moving story about how God had showed him (Bill) the true nature of His fatherly love. I couldn't get the story off my mind. Later that day (in the shower) I got a glimpse of the love God has for me and how he regards me as a beloved son. I began to weep, and then to sing, and this is the song that resulted. My cowriter Jeff Leslie, came up with the parallel to an earthly father expressed in the first verse.
DADDY'S ARMS
Like a gentle breeze blowin'
I could hear his voice callin'
"Hey kids, I'm home."
As a child I was longing
For my daddy's homecoming
I'd start to run
I was looking for those arms that hold me tight
For he's the one who made everything right
My Daddy's arms were strong and warm
They'd keep me safe from harm
The smile I'd see from Daddy's knee
Filled all my heart with peace
Perfect peace
When I'm on my knees praying
I will find myself saying
"Hey, Dad, I'm home."
Like a sinner who's fallen
There's a Savior I'm calling
And He will come
When I fall before the Throne of Grace
Jesus takes me to that heavenly place
My Daddy's arms are strong and warm
They keep me safe from harm
The smile I see from Daddy's knee
Fills all my heart with peace
Perfect Peace
(instrumental break)
When I fall before the Throne of Grace
Jesus takes me to that heavenly place
My Daddy's arms are strong and warm
They keep me safe from harm
The smile I see from Daddy's knee
Fills all my heart with peace
Perfect Peace
My Daddy's arms are strong and warm
They keep me safe from harm
The smile I see from Daddy's knee
Fills all my heart with peace
Perfect Peace
