An uptempo country (rock) song. I wish I coulda had sombody like Buck Owens record it
Written years ago as a slower more "white soul" kind of groove but it never really worked & then I psed it up & it sounded kind of C&W so I thought I'd keep it that way. This version was recorded in Michael's living room. I sang, played shaker & piano. Michael played the guitars bass & faux drums. We both drank beer.
ONCE DRUNK HERO
Well I know that something's wrong
I can see it in your eyes
But when I try to get close to you you always act so surprised
I guess you've got no faith in me
Or maybe you're afraid
Why can't you see that dues you're payin' I've already paid
CHORUS; I'm a once drunk hero trying to see
If I'm good for you & if you're good for me
So, do you feel it
Don't I cound at all
You seem to think you can be with me without getting involved
I'm not trying to run your life
cuz that's up to you
I only wish I knew where I stood cuz I'm so confused
CHORUS
Sometimes you act like you really want it
Sometimes you don't know I'm around
Why won't you come out & let me know if I'm bringing you down
I'd be ready for anything
If you'd only say it
But if this is a game to you I don't wanna play it
CHORUS
