Story behind the song
My old roommate, Rob Somers, and I wrote this one just goofing off in my dorm after his girlfriend broke up with him, and it just flowed out... Occasionally, there's a rare occasion that he'll show up and join me, but this recording isn't one of them...
Lyrics
The fall of autumn And the smell of her hair on my pillow Leaves me restless And wanting more And I tied back my memories Placing them in a jar that I left Far out of reach Let me never remember And let me always forget The way it once was When I held your face And now and then Now and again Stop on by and let us be For a spell I miss you But I don’t want you back The things that you remembered Left around my room Are stale and dead To me Words left on willow trees Fall away Leaves me So far out of reach Let me never remember And let me always forget The way it once was When I held your face And now and then Now and again Stop on by and let us be For a spell I miss you But I don’t want you back
