I came up with my own middle eastern type scale for this one. It is used for all the melodies and improvisations. Don't know what it would be called but I think it might be the same scale Led Zeppelin used for Kashmir.
The intro section was done separately on my old Ensoniq SQ-1.
The wild percussion section in the intro was actually a mistake. I thought I was recording an oboe but when I played back the track it was set to drums. I thought it sounded cool so I left it in.
The Grand piano in the main section was recorded at the old Songbird Studios in Atlanta. The guitars were done at home on one of my old four track recorders. Starting at 5:03 I flipped the tape over and recorded all the guitars backwards. I always loved that sound and a lot of my older songs have all kinds of backwards stuff in 'em. It's one of the cool things I miss about analog recording.
The ride cymbal is way too loud. Another song ruined by bad drum programing.
I plan on re-mixing it with new drum tracks if I can get the old two inch tape transfered to digital but I haven't found a studio around here that still uses two inch and dbx.
