Acoustic folk rock, singer-songwriter
I've been singing since I was able to gurgle but only playing the guitar since I was 11, when my "father homeward came one day and gave to me a toy" (Thanks, Tom). That was about 50 years ago give or take a few months and I've been singing, playing and writing songs on and off, during all that time.

Story behind the song
A friend of mine showed me a poem he'd written for a student publication. I liked the imagery and the geographical reference. I lived outside Portsmouth at the time and I was always impressed with the view at night as you crested Portsdown Hill and looked down onto the island and the dark sea beyond. Of course, the twin stacks of the power station looked like two fingers stuck in the air but that's something else. This was one of two songs where I wanted just guitar and voice. I've always been proud of the jazzy progression and I Rob worked hard to get the best out of my trusty J200. I think the guitar was a single take but my voice was probably several!
