A friend gave me this title way too many years ago - I should've written the song then, but instead I waited until I was in the hospital. Maybe I needed the peace & quiet.
While I was in the hospital & recovering from surgery I was reading a book about the band Aerosmith & (since I was on a Morphine drip) this song popped into my head. But I didn't have a tape-recorder, or a guitar (much less a piano), I was, after all, in the hospital at the time, I lost the Aerosmith "vibe" & when I wrote the song at home - it turned out like this. All I can say is "oh yeah"....
SAILING ON PAST MIDNIGHT
As the man stood on the corner outside the liquor store
Singing for his supper or maybe sonething more
It aint no big secret what he's really trying to score
Sailing on past midnight until morning
All alone in her room with the Reverend on T.V.
She sends him all her money 'cuz salvation don't come free
She crosses herself 'cuz she knows she's gonna be
Sailing on past midnight until morning
(Oh yeah)
It's that old time religion
(Oh no)
It's a new-age prescription
(Who cares?)
Doesn't matter anyway
When you're trying to get through another day
Smewhere east of Eden just north of Hollywood
The other side of Vegas in my old neighborhood
They just recycle your dreams & tell you that it's good
To be sailing on past midnight until morning
OH YEAH!!!!
Momma always told me whn I was just a kid
You gotta do your own thing - not what your parents did
Once you finally find out what that really is
You'll be sailing on past midnight until morning
OH YEAH!!!
