Acoustic folk rock, singer-songwriter
I've been singing since I was able to gurgle but only playing the guitar since I was 11, when my "father homeward came one day and gave to me a toy" (Thanks, Tom). That was about 50 years ago give or take a few months and I've been singing, playing and writing songs on and off, during all that time.

Story behind the song
The idea for this song came to me when I was listening to the Sam Cooke song of the same name. I was struck by the difference between the innonence of his song and the sad reality that because we don't know much about history we're doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. When I came to record it, Rob my trusty sound engineer, suggested that for once I lay down the basic rythm track on his Strat. I'd never used an electric guitar to record before but I have to admit he was probably right for this particular song. We sampled my voice and used it on his DX7 to create the choir effects behind the last verse.
