This is a poem I wrote for my Dad for his 75th birthday.
I wrote this poem to honor my Dad at his 75th birthday surprise party. It is written to him not only from me, but from our family and friends.
It's Hard To Believe
(words/music by Mike Fisher)
It's hard to believe that I'm 50
It's harder to believe you are 75!
One thing I'm thankful for though...
We're both still alive!
It's hard to believe I'm a Dad with 4 kids
I never thought that would happen!
You are 1 of 4 kids and you made it...
But that was way back then!
Now my kids were born with a fishing pole in their hands
I think I was, too!
But you were born the very same way,
So really, it's nothing new!
Your commitment and dedication
Are something that we all admire
But it's hard to believe you're still working
Don't you think it's time to retire?!
It's hard to believe it's 2009
You're great with figures...so let's see...
I notice when I subtract '1934'
It's 3-quarters of a century!
In that time you've developed quite a few skills
Your many talents are all quite diverse
But we're worried that you can't keep up this pace...
It's a good thing your daughter's a nurse!
Carol wondered what she could do to celebrate
She said that you wanted 'nothing'
But she decided to throw you a party
Besides...we think you were bluffing!
It's hard to believe that your family
Has grown to become such a huge size!
Hopefully everyone here has been quiet
And not spoiled this special surprise!
We've all come together as family and friends
To honor this time in your life
And because of your age, we'll respect you...
So far, I've been pretty nice!
It's hard to believe that I've not used a word
That most people say at this time
But how could 'old' be included when describing a man
Who is obviously still in his prime!
I won't stretch this out any longer
Even though there is much more to say
Let me finish by saying, "We love you!"
Happy 75th (It's hard to believe it's been 3-quarters of a century) Birthday!
