When I was a boy, with a ray-gun toy
And Space was the final frontier
Two great Nations, challenged the sky
And the Space Race was finally here.
One sent a dog and one sent a chimp
and finally one sent a man.
Not content with just flying around
They said, Let's get to the moon if we can.
Far up above there's a jewel
Floating in the sky
In the darkness of space
Span the miles from the Earth
To Old Man Moon's puckered face.
Like the old Pioneers Who set out for the West
Three men took off to the Moon.
On a long, dangerous journey flying through space
THey touched down in the Tranquil Sea
Stepping down from the craft
spoke those famous words
Man had at last left his world
But there was deserts and canyons Like the Arizona plains
And when they looked around they thought they were home.
Far up above there's a jewel
Floating in the sky
In the darkness of space
Span the miles from one man
To the whole human race.
Time to go point the nose and hope
Feel the heat, breathe deep you'll be home soon
Rising Earth to greet you, falling into the sea
You return to the womb.
Now I can't believe it's been forty odd years
Since man walked on the moon
Is he going back soon, or do we have to wait
For forty odd years more?
Far up above there's a jewel
Floating in the sky
In the darkness of space
Span the miles from the Earth
To the whole outer space.
