Story behind the song
My mum was struck by Alzheimers before age 60, and was a great believer in God. 'Nuff said - if he's so good, why would he do that?
Couple of word-fluffs in this, and we ran out of tape before the end, but ye get the gist.
Lyrics
"Our God is good," is what you said as you dragged me tae Kirk,
"He's with you in your daily play and in my Life and Work."
If God's sae good why did He tak' the very stuff you are,
And leave you like the guttering flame on a candle in a jar?"
For 40 years you lived as one, you pair gave life tae me,
You brought me up tae worship Him, the point I couldnae see.
My faither's house you tramped around in row 'pon row 'pon row.
Not knowing why, you pured the tea, and my cup overflowed.
You gave your time, you gave your soul, you gave your energy,
You gave belief in that good God and a wider family.
But did they care? Ach, did they hell, your true friends could be seen
And as the mists flowed through your mind, Good God became a dream.
The small domestic tragedies, Tsunamis, famines, war
It's said they're sent tae test our faith, my faith's been tested sore.
Why should a faither treat his weans as if He didnae care?
A loving God would stop the pain, I think he isnae there
He's vanished in thin air
He doesnae really care.
