The Letter was written in 1966 when I was 14 years old. My goal was to fairly replicate the ambiance of the period in this new version. And I wanted to do this using only the instruments that would have been available to me at that time. In this recording I used an acoustic guitar for rhythm and lead, electric guitar for rhythm, the last four strings on the electric guitar to simulate a bass guitar, my hands and fingers on my desk for percussion and a muted 6th string for the intro.
The Letter
Words and Music By Trabue Gentry
I read you letter
Late last night
Fully aware
Of the contents inside
Though now you're not with me
Your words still remain
But the meanings within them
Are just not the same
And you know I still love you so
Can't stand to see you go
And you know I'm gonna need you more
And darling I'll love you girl
For the rest of my life
Your second letter
Continued to say
That this was the last
Of our happy days
Your final letter
Arrived to say
That the love you had for me
Was drifting away
Oh why did you have to go
Dona€™t you know I really need to know
And you know I'm gonna need you more
And darling I'll love you girl
For the rest of my life
