About growing up. A young girl thinks she knows everything and is ready to make it on her own. But as she finds out life is more difficult than she thinks and she really does need help.
She's Headed Out
She's just eighteen but she thinks she knows it all
She's been fightin' with her folks ever since the fall
Feels like she just can't stay any longer
That will of hers keeps on gettin' so much stronger
As she's leaving, her dad say's dear
You'll always be welcome here
If things don't go as planned
I'll be here to lend a helping hand
(ch) Now, she's headed out in the Northbound lane
wth not much more than a nickel to her name
She don't know what she's gonna find
but somehow she's gonna get by
She put's as many miles as she can between herself and that little town
tries to find a place so she can settle down
Doesn't take her long to find out about life in the big city
Well, it's hard, and it's lonely and it sure as hell ain't pretty
She picks up the phone, her dad says honey
I understand I'll send the money
You go and make your move out west
You know you make me proud, and I know you'll do your best
(ch) Now she's headed out in the Westbound lane
with not much more than a nickel to her name
She don't know what she's gonna find
but somehow she's gonna get by
(Bridge)
She falls in love and marries in June
He beats her up on their honeymoon
She picks up the phone and says
Daddy, I wanna come home
(Ch) Now she's headed out in the Southbound lane
She's heading right on home again
She don't know what she's gonna find
but with some help she's gonna get by
