Story behind the song
seems like every time I get a new plug-in, guitar, or other forms of G.A.S. and want to put it through its paces, I wind up recoding a bluesy jam. But this one was a little different, for U wasn't out to base it on guitar! No, because as well as being a frustrated drummer, I'm also a frustrated organist - and as luck would have it, I got ahold of one of the best organ VSTs there is. (The love of B3 organ comes from two bands I played in back in the 80s which had killer organ/Leslie players - when you have one of those bad boys comping behind you, you don't need a second guitar!) I don't know what was tougher with this one, though - playing the organ itself, or the mixdown afterwards. As I learned after many, many hours of getting levels right, organs and distortion guitar don't play well with each other, and you have to work with getting the right amount of grit on guitar to make it stand out in a mix. Still, I think I did OK with this little Texas Twister. As always, thoughts on how I did are much appreciated! rhythm guitar - Peavey Falcon though Studio Devil BVC (great freeware app!) lead guitar - Fender Highway 1 Strat through Amplitube Jimi Hendrix bass - Peavey Millenium through NI Guitar Rig 3 organ - NI B4II drums: Terry Bozzio (via Submersible Music Drumcore 2)
