Burning bridges at the alter
saying grace and that you do
with this done the war is over
but, the battle's never through
Songs are sung in admiration
medals given in exchange
no one practices the meaning
is it so far out of range?
With the bandages around you
some security is found
but, the wound is so much deeper
it may put you in the ground
With the battle almost over
sides are running out of plays
having lost the battle evenly
both go on their separate ways
Never owning one another
though they thought this was untrue
Nothing gained from their encounter
What they had they never knew
