Story behind the song
The Original Onyx. James Latimer - Lead Guitar, & Vocals. Tony Wiese - Guitar, & Lead Vocals. Jack Mondlak - Keyboards. John Flannagan - Bass Guitar. Bob Holzner - Drums, & Percussion. This song was written by Jack Mondlak and was recorded during July of 1978. We wrote and recorded a number of songs after our original guitarist, Glenn Spence, quit the band. James Latimer was in the band for a brief time after Glenn quit but James left the band after a short period before this song was written. This song was originally written and recorded during that time when we decided to continue as a four-piece band. James did come back a few months later to again be in the band and we stayed together through our final gig in 1980 (reunion show). James' contribution as lead guitarist helped propel this song to new heights. We used to play this original short original version of the song but later re-arranged it to include a keyboard solo by Jack Mondlak and a guitar solo by James Latimer. We also went into a blues section and James even sang a verse of B.B. King’s, “My Own Fault Baby” (Muddy Water’s version). This vocal part of the song has been edited out of the song found above on this site for copyright purposes. This is the original short version recording of the song which including James Latimer on guitar. Recorded by Mike Mills with assistance from Phil Sypniewski.
