Story behind the song
In 2006 I facilitated a guitar/songwriting class at NeKaMo Camp (christian girls camp) in Missouri. After learning a few basic chords, we decided to try our hand at writing a silly song that would kinda-sorta-loosely go with our Bible theme for the week. (Romans 12:1-2) One of the gals (ELLE!) shouted out that we should write a song about a pickle. She tried to reneg on her fine suggestion - but she was overruled. The "style" of the music just had to be Veggie Tales-ish . . . so word play and goofiness ensued. The result was a short but sweet (1:24) song that we still sing today - whenever pickles are mentioned. You'd be surprised how often the word pickle comes up in everyday conversation! LOLOL
Lyrics
The Pickle Song Zazu’s Guitar/Songwriting Class ©2006 V1 Gary the cucumber’s really quite sad He does not want to be in a sa-lad Too cold Too green Too leafy Too lean He really wants to be a pickle! Chorus: A pickle, a pickle Not relish or peas Piled high on a burger With ketchup and cheese Please hold the lettuce Tomatoes are fine Baptize me in a pickle-y brine V2 Now Gary, O Gary is really quite glad-y He feels right at home on the top of a patty I’m bold And beefy Not cold Or leafy Hooray! I’m Gary the Pickle! Bridge: Transformed and changed just like me My friend Rob wants to be But I’ve never heard of a pickled tomato Maybe he can be an a-va-ca-do Chorus Tag: Please hold the lettuce Tomatoes are fine Baptize me in a pickle-y brine
