Story behind the song
I was reading over the weekend. A story being told by an old black man.. He was telling of a life and death situation and how he was all but sure he would not survive.. For some reason in the middle of the story he spoke of his shoes and of his disappointment in the fact that they were being so badly damaged in the struggle .. Can't tell you why that reference jumped out at me.. but it did..
